Richard Hall BA FCA

Richard qualified as a chartered accountant with Grant Thornton in 1992 before joining Walter Dawson & Son in 1996.

Based in Bradford, he provides business and tax advice to a wide portfolio of owner mangers with particular emphasis on the agricultural businesses as well as trust and estate planning. Richard is always prepared to go the extra mile to provide his clients with the advice they need, whatever the time of day or night! He enjoys nothing better than getting out onto the shop floor to ensure he understands his clients and their businesses.

When not at work or providing a taxi service for his two daughters, Richard likes to help out on the family farm near Wakefield.


Graham Atkinson BA FCA

Graham trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloittes in Leeds, qualifying in 1991.

He joined Walter Dawson & Son in 1992, before becoming a partner in 1995.

The main focus of Graham’s work is audit, assurance and compliance. His clients cover a wide range of sectors including solicitors, manufacturers, engineers and property investors. These are mainly owner managed businesses who appreciate the personal hands-on approach he adopts when looking after both them and their business matters. His technical knowledge, ability to adapt and relate to his clients’ specific requirements has been a great benefit for his clients.

Graham’s client portfolio also includes clubs, charities and pension schemes.

Graham enjoys spending his time with his family, walking, reading and going to the cinema as well as being a lifelong supporter of Huddersfield Town.


Andrew Mitchell BSc. FCA

A former pupil of Batley Grammar School, Andrew, the son of a Walter Dawson & Son client, joined the firm from University in 1992. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, Andrew left the firm to broaden his horizons and returned a year later to manage the Huddersfield office.

Andrew also manages client portfolios based at our Dewsbury and Leyburn offices. His specialisms include looking after the majority of Walter Dawson overseas clients, medical professionals and those that are FCA regulated. Having self-employed parents, Andrew also understands the requirements and issues that owner managers face.

Outside of work Andrew enjoys travelling and the countryside. He is very actively involved in local Scouting as a District Explorer Scout Commissioner, and he takes groups hillwalking and caving.


Debby Elsey ATT

Debby became part of the Walter Dawson team in 2004 when we merged with the firm she worked for. She is responsible for our Leeds office and was appointed a partner in 2013.

Her practical hands-on approach has resulted in successful client relationships, many of them having continuity of service since 1986.

Debby specialises in management accounting, where her proactive and analytical methods have led to her helping clients succeed in difficult economic times.

Debby gained her tax qualification in 2009, strengthening the overall service she can offer.

Debby is involved with Leeds Children’s Theatre with her two daughters. She is an active committee member and helps backstage and has even been seen treading the boards.

She loves walking, especially in the Dales, and is an active gym member.


Julie Young FCCA

Julie trained and qualified as an accountant in Leyburn. Julie is responsible for the day-to- day management of the Leyburn office and advises a wide range of owner managed businesses.

Living and working in the Dales means Julie can provide the best understanding of the local community and your needs. Julie invests in her clients for the long term and now looks after a number of businesses, which she took on as start-ups, all of which have now prospered and expanded into profitable larger concerns.

On the weekend, Julie can be found on a building site assisting her partner in his building and joinery business. She can truly say she knows what it is like to work on the tools and understands what it takes for a local business to develop and prosper.
